Decisions, decisions, now what should I do, you might ask? Well I pose myself that question regularly and sometimes I find the right answer easily and quickly, other times it is more of a headless chicken act, running round and round in circles without actually getting anywhere…
What do you do when you have to make a decision and you aren’t sure? It can be quite a challenge can’t it?
That is exactly my dilemma today! I have entered a 90 day writing challenge with a donation to my chosen charity for every consecutive day written at the end of the challenge… I have 2 options both of which I am very motivated about!
- One, start my novel
- Two, write about the things I am passionate about linked to my work and vocation – food, fitness, freedom and fulfilment!
So, which am I going to choose and how to make that choice?
I thought about it last night. As I am doing this for the pleasure of writing, to have a bit of accountability so I do write every day and because I want to donate to a charity I care about, all my reasons are positive and not governed by deadlines, stress, pressure. Whichever choice I make it will be a happy one – I think this is a luxury when making a choice as we don’t feel ‘forced’ or ‘pushed into a corner’.
Having thought about that I then looked objectively at which would need additional work and information, which would need more preparation…
Then I thought about what I have been doing for the last couple of months – building up the interest for my new radio show – and the people I had been interviewing and how it had made me feel.
Decision made and I am so pumped about the plan! This writing challenge I am going to write about food, fitness, freedom and fulfilment. “Why?” you might ask – well, my novel I have promised to start by the time I am 60 so I have a couple of years to prepare and it needs a lot of research as it will start at the earliest point of my family tree (6th – 7th century on one side and 11th century on the other) which is quite a few years ago and will take some time! But, wow, will it be good when it is done – I can’t wait 😉
For the 4 Fs, thinking about the great interviews and fascinating guests I have had on the show, I can feel the energy and inspiration I have when talking to them about the 4 Fs, also the very positive feedback and number of comments and compliments received and I realise how much these topics interest and inspire others – so voilà!
When you have a decision to make, how do you make it? Just look at the very brief example I have given you about how I made my decision. I looked at the reasons why, the implications of the decision as well as the time and commitment surrounding each option, then considered the impact and outcome… It made it a very easy and positive decision.
When you are in this situation try doing the same, it removes the stress and leaves you feeling happy, satisfied and motivated with your choice!
